Social Media Marketing

Back in 2006, we were asked to speak to a group of adult industry entrepreneurs about the importance of embracing social media (SM) . To be fair SM was still in its infancy, Twitter wasn’t even launched yet and so the response was … crickets! That said however the adult industry remains in denial about the need to embrace social media. New research finds that 72% of businesses that use social media do not have a clear set of goals or a clear strategy for their social media platforms.

This lack of direction is happening despite the fact that 60% of Americans use some sort of social media, according to the Pew Research Center (2012). Businesses, however, are not convinced that social media is anything more than a fad or can actually be utilized to “market” adult material.

In our case, we were early adopters of social media and have spent the past seven years studying and modifying our strategies. Today, our social media campaigns account for over 75% of our self generated traffic.
